Short version: we collect only the data necessary to provide your learning sessions. No advertising and no sharing of your personal data for advertising purposes.
1. Who are we?
Melingva is operated by the individual identified in our Legal Notice . We are the data controller for the personal data collected through melingva.com and the Melingva application.

2. Data we collect
We collect only the data necessary to provide and secure the service:
Account and authentication data
Email address, first and last name, hashed password when you use standard registration, and information necessary to manage your account. When you register, we also record the platform used (Web, iOS, or Android) and the registration method (standard registration or an authentication provider such as Google or Apple). If you use an authentication provider, we receive the necessary profile information provided by that provider. With Sign in with Apple, Apple may provide a private relay email address if you choose to hide your personal email address.
Learning data
Words viewed, review intervals, session history, and vocabulary progression. This is the core data that powers your spaced repetition schedule.
Billing data
Subscription status and references related to your order or subscription (e.g. Paddle transaction ID). Payment information is processed by Paddle, and we do not store card numbers or complete payment instrument details.
3. Why we collect it
Providing the service
Running your learning sessions, calculating your spaced repetition schedule, recording your progress, and operating your account. Legal basis: performance of a contract.
Billing and subscriptions
Managing your subscription, tracking transactions associated with your account, and ensuring the proper operation of your premium access. Legal basis: performance of a contract.
Security and fraud prevention
Detecting and preventing abuse, securing accounts, and protecting the service infrastructure. Legal basis: legitimate interest.
Legal obligations
Retaining billing records as required by French accounting law and complying with our legal obligations. Legal basis: legal obligation.
4. Data retention
Account and learning data are kept for as long as your account is active. If there is no activity on your account for 3 years, we will contact you to give you the opportunity to keep your account active. If you do not respond, your account and the personal data associated with it will be deleted. Billing records are retained for 10 years where required by French accounting law.
6. Audience measurement
We use Matomo, a self-hosted audience measurement solution, to understand how our website is used and improve our service. Matomo is configured to meet the CNIL conditions for consent exemption: tracking cookies are disabled, IP addresses are anonymized, and the data collected is limited and aggregated for statistical purposes. We do not seek to identify individual visitors, and audience measurement data is not used for advertising purposes.
You can nevertheless opt out of audience measurement at any time using the control below.
7. Your rights
Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), you have the following rights:
- Access a copy of the data we hold about you
- Correct inaccurate data
- Delete your account and the data associated with it
- Request restriction of processing or object to certain processing activities, where provided for by the GDPR
- Receive your data in a portable format
- Lodge a complaint with the CNIL at cnil.fr
To exercise any of these rights, email us at melingva@proton.me. We respond to your request within one month. This period may be extended by up to two additional months where the complexity or number of requests justifies it; we will inform you of any such extension within the first month.
